Three Alumni Talks
Thursday 28 September 6.30 – 8.00pm BST (GMT/UT +1)
The Cosmos and our livelihood
The Cosmos and our Livelihood - My dissertation research led me to take a wider interest in the development of human economy over human history and how cosmology has been embedded in that development. Since pre-historic times humans have had a relationship with the Sun, the Moon, the planets, and the stars in regulating their daily lives and systems have been developed to enhance that relationship. The book that I am completing examines this long history and brings us to the current day. I will discuss the process that I have followed with some anecdotes about the adventure of writing the book.
Jonathan Jones completed his MA in 2016. He has been a commercial and development lawyer for 40 years and travelled widely in his work studying the history and culture of the countries he visited. He was always a keen historian and cosmologist from teenage years onwards. In his dissertation he studied the impact of astrology on the financial world in the last two hundred years and has given a number of talks on the subject.
Astrology and Education
Astrology and Education - Managing adolescent behaviour in a classroom can be a significant concern for teachers. This talk will analyse the results of an astrologer’s use of astrological cycles to match behaviour amongst adolescent students. Quantitative data will be analysed alongside qualitative research amongst parents and teachers.
Alex Trenoweth, DFAstrolS, MA (CAA), ISAR CAP, is a veteran classroom teacher as well as an award-winning astrologer who has presented her research across the globe. She is the author of two astrology books, ‘Growing Pains’ and ‘Mirror Mirror’, and she is also the Director of Education for Kepler College.
States of Mind, Hermeneutics and Destiny
States of Mind, Hermeneutics and Destiny - This talk will discuss the relevant role of altered states of mind in astrological practice. I will do this by examining the different hermeneutic levels that can be applied to symbols and how this influence people’s experiences of the notion of destiny.
Soledad Davies is an astrologer from Patagonia, Argentina, and a holder of the MA in Cultural Astronomy and Astrology from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. She has also studied Western Esotericism at the University of Amsterdam, NL. Her main interest is the intersection of astrology, philosophy, and religion. In 2016, she founded PsicoCymática, an international centre for the study of astrology and esotericism.
