The Wisdom of the Stars

The 2023 Sophia Centre conference, in the year of our 21st birthday, will explore the concept of the Wisdom of the Stars.

Since earliest recorded history and, in all cultures from cave art to space telescopes, the stars, planets and other celestial bodies have functioned as sources of knowledge about the world or the individual, the future (and past and present), the nature of the universe and concepts of the divine. They have performed this function through magic, divination, astrology, poetry, music and the visual arts, modern science and science fiction.

The conference committee invites speakers to address the question of whether and how the celestial bodies act as sources of knowledge or wisdom.

Proposals can touch on any time period or culture.

Abstracts should be 3,000 characters maximum, and include three academic references.

Please include a short biography of 3,000 characters maximum.

Also, please email us a photo.

Invited speakers will be notified by spring 2023.

Publication: all speakers will be invited to submit to an anthology for publication by the Sophia Centre Press in partnership with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
