Nicholas Campion and Dorian Gieseler Greenbaum (eds), Astrology in Time and Place: Cross-Cultural Currents in the History of Astrology, (Newcastle: Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2016).
The selected proceedings of the 2012 Sophia Centre conference have finally been published after many intense hours of complex editing, and the resulting volume is a fine tribute to the speakers who submitted their papers. The theme of the volume is, as the subtitle suggests, cross-cultural currents in the history of astrology. This develops a line of thought which we have been developing in the Centre, which is that astrology (defined broadly as the derivation of meaning from the sky) is a feature of most, if not all, cultures. This volume, with its distinguished scholars, ranges from Japan to China, India, Mesopotamia, Europe (ancient, medieval and modern), Madagascar and Meso-America. The complete list of chapters and contributors is on the publishers web site.
