Travelling by Air

The Samarkand International Airport (SKD) is located about 6 kilometers north of the city centre. Airlines flying til Samarkand include

- Turkish Airlines

Uzbekistan Airways fly to Samarkand from Frankfurt, Heathrow, Milan, Istanbul, Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt), Batumi (Georgia), Baku(Azerbadjan), Beijing, Dubai (UAE)

Turkish Airlines fly from Istanbul to Samarkand Int. Airport in 4 hrs 20 min (non stop). Other hubs include Doha in Qatar, Dubai in UAE and Tel Aviv in Israel.

There are flights to Samarkand from a number of Russian airports.

There are some alternatives. For example, one can fly to Tashkent and take bus/train/taxi or even a flight to Samarkand. It's around 240 kilometers.

The new terminal at Samarkand International Airport recently opened.
