Netiquette

Netiquette: Good Online Behaviour

In all our open learning events, lectures and courses we follow rules of good Netiquette' (short for 'net etiquette') for online behaviour.

In an academic online environment the opportunity to present your ideas and debate with others is important. Therefore please follow this guide:

  • Please make sure that your comments in online lectures, chat boxes and on forums are relevant, respectful, courteous and constructive. And always pause before you post, just to make sure that you have followed these rules
  • If you disagree with someone, listen carefully to what they have to say and always acknowledge their point of view
  • Try to keep messages concise in order to make you point more effectively
  • Consider the evidence presented in the course material when making contributions
  • If you post something inappropriate, a tutor or module leader might delete the post and contact you privately to explain why. If this should happen repeatedly, you could be subject to sanctions.
